Lattafa Qaed Al Fursan EDP – Smoky Pineapple & Oud. Not a fruit bowl — pineapple charred, quartered over hot coals, served with resin, saffron and dark wood. Qaed Al Fursan is Lattafa’s cult smoky-pineapple bruiser, and it has been quietly outperforming its price tag since 2016.

Have you ever put pineapple on a barbecue? Quartered it, laid it over hot coals, let the sugars catch and blacken at the edges? It stops being a fruit and becomes something else entirely — caramelised, smoky, faintly resinous, unreasonably good.

Qaed Al Fursan smells like that. Not pineapple juice. Grilled pineapple, with woodsmoke curling around it and something dark and resinous underneath. It launched in 2016, it costs a fraction of what it smells like it should, and nearly a decade later people are still on their third bottle.

Top — Pineapple, Saffron. The pineapple hits first and it hits hard: sweet, juicy, unapologetically tropical. But it’s never just fruit, because saffron is right behind it — leathery, slightly medicinal, a little metallic. That saffron is what stops this being a fruit cocktail and turns it into a proper Arabian fragrance. It’s also, honestly, the note that divides people. Some find it rich and expensive; others find it synthetic. You’ll know within ten minutes which camp you’re in.

Heart — Balsam Fir, Jasmine. Fir balsam is the secret weapon here and it’s what most reviews miss. It brings a green, resinous, almost pine-forest quality that plays against the sweetness beautifully — this is where the “grilled” part of grilled pineapple comes from. Jasmine sits underneath, softening the edges, keeping it from turning into an air freshener.

Base — Cedar, Amber, Oud. Dry cedar, warm amber and a smooth, un-scary oud. This isn’t a barnyard oud; it’s the polished, sweet, slightly smoky kind. The drydown is where Qaed Al Fursan stops shouting and starts smelling genuinely expensive — sweet woods radiating off warm skin, hours after the pineapple has burned off.
